Pocket Squares as an Analyst???
So a friend of mine gave me a bunch of really nice pocket squares. I would like to wear them, but it may be too much. I wanted to get the feeling from those who actually work in IB, particularly if you are at a MM/Boutique.
I will however say that the culture at my firm is not uptight. For example, I wear cuff links a once or twice a week. No one cares and I have never heard anything negative. However, I think pocket squares are a whole different ballgame when it comes to accessorizing.
Thanks for the input.
No.
Depends on where you are located. In the States, make sure it's crisp and folded where you're showing 1/4", or so, of the WHITE square. I wouldn't walk in with a flamboyant, loud-colored paisely square exploding out of my pocket like a flower and expect to be taken seriously at any bank. I'd even venture that tasteful quite squares are more appropriate for junior-levels than cuff links, but that's just my personal taste.
I don't think that it is appropriate if you are an analyst, a rule of thumb is never dress better than your superiors, if they aren't even wearing pocket squares then don't think about it.
Trust me, I love pocket squares as much as the next guy, but don't wear them to work.
Yeah, unless you are a VP or are on Nip Tuck leave the pocket square at home.
gayest thread ever
should I wear my top hat to work, or is that too formal?
See, I would have thought by your comments regarding fraternities that you would be a proponent of pocket squares.
No, my comments regarding fraternities should have signaled to you that I am a proponent of dressing as a straight male in the 21st century. Not as a flamboyant Mr. Peanut.
A very misinformed post based on nothing but unfounded prejudice. Would you call JFK a "flamboyant Mr. Peanut"? Knowing how to wear a pocket square appropriately can only make you look classier.
This is what you said, "if it is a real fraternity, members will be wearing polo ralph lauren or brooks brothers. that's when you know to join- good networking."
I'm not going to argue with you over WSO. I just figured since ralph lauren and brooks brothers both make pocket squares and you have an obvious appreciation for someone who is well dressed and in-turn be in favor. Personally, I don't give a shit if you like them or not.
My comment was only meant to be an observation.
I had hoped for a different response, although its what I figured.
I may just wear them once and a while.
Pocket squares can look really good and a lot of people wear it, just if you out dress your MD people might not like it. Most people have no idea how to dress or frankly give a crap what they wear. If it looks nice and you like it then do it. Just realize the possible ramifications.
