Possibilities of Moving office - U.K. to USA
How possible is it too seriously move office from London to NYC after two years as an BB IB analyst? On another discussion (below) on this platform I heard that it was possible however you could encounter various problems. Comprehensive answers to the questions below would be great.
There is no yes/no answer. The truth is that it depends on your bank, analyst class, headcount and performance. But generally, yes you can. If you want to go to 'cool' offices it will usually be harder - you usually have to be top bucket to go to NYC (at least for my bank). If you want to go to Moldavia (never been it may be great but never heard of anyone that wants to go there) it should be quite easy. You get the point.
Other thing on moving to the US/other countries. Don't see yourself staying there for the long run. In most cases you bank will move you there for a year or two at best on a visa that doens't allow you to change jobs. So no recruiting on the buyside, to an other bank etc. Obviously that doesn't apply if you have the citizenship or permanent residency in that country.
Comprehensive answers to the questions below would be great.
1) How difficult is it too permanently move office from a London BB to NYC BB?
2) Is it common for individuals to make the move from a London or European BB to a NYC BB? As a US banker do you encounter many europeans within your bank?
3) If possible, what is the average time London bankers can move offices to NYC? Is it possible to make the move after a year in your BB?
4) The post in italics above refers to visa issues, is this true, if so how can you get around this? Is it possible to receive a permeant visa through moving office?
5) Which banks are more open to London BB bankers moving office to NYC?
6) The post in italics above refers to visa issues regarding buy-side exit ops when moving office, is this completely true?
7) what's the best way to inform your superiors that you want to move offices to NYC without burning any bridges at your current office? who would you generally speak with to make this happen?
Any information on the questions listed would be appreciated.
