I would have read this as you needing to come up with an interesting idea, not finding a pending / rumoured deal in the market (at any one time there aren't *that* many in the market, and besides, I feel like coming up with a novel idea is a better way to challenge a student
No it's really just about a rumored/potential deal and not about pitching a potentially interesting deal
