Usually sits within the Equities department at banks. How far you go up the capital structure is team dependent.

Since you're in a product team you tend to be sector agnostic as a result (but there is a general bias toward tech and consumer by way of deal activity)

Hours more chill than M&A

Gives you good interaction and exposure with different types of private markets investors

Not so heavy on modelling. Usually forecast op models are done by company CFOs. You will be modelling investment structures, returns and cap tables. Pretty light stuff.

Overall a growth area within a bank, so a good place to be..

 

Someone I know is actually in this group and they are hiring aggressively. He/She pitched me on joining, and I am considering it in the new year. I don't want to ask them, but what could exits look like from this group? Sounds more technical / interesting than ECM, yet a (big) step-down from M&A (from a technical skillset perspective).
