Recruiting for PE on-cycle after 1st year with chance of A2A after year 2?

I was curious if anyone has experience with this type of scenario.

What happens if you recruit for PE after your first year (to start after your 3rd) with the intention of being a 3rd year analyst and then leaving but then you get offered an A2A promotion after year 2? Do you take the promotion and then leave after a year as an Associate or do you decline the promotion and try to stay on as a 3rd year analyst?
