Sending manager daily updates?

Maybe this is how the corporate world works, so apologies, but I just started at a new BB from a smaller boutique as an analyst 1, and my staffer wants daily email updates one in the morning and one at night, and I just find it annoying. Like, I'm not worried or scared about doing work more work, but I think it's crazy that I have to do this, and it's been 2 months now. Do you all do it or is this more common at BBs and busy teams?

Just feels a little micromanaging? We are a small team, so we get pinged and asked all the time and turn around, so it's strange to write it up as a list and send it out like midnight or whenever I clock out for the night, or maybe it is normal. At my old job, my manager knew what was going on because he staffed me and would assign me stuff and feel like, it's the same here. I am the only analyst, so my work list seems obvious or maybe I am overthinking.
