Shirt Dress Code - London
What is acceptable for a male intern / 1st yr analyst to wear shirt wise.
Are striped shirts ok or should you only stick to plain white & blue?
And how strict is "no brown in town" in The City? Brown brogues ok on fridays?
Any insights / other dress advice appreciated.
Small stripes are ok tbh. But the bulk of your wardrobe should be plain white/blue shirts.
With regards to the shoes, I’d stick with black for now, until you hit the desk and can assess whether brown would be appropriate.
You should wear black shoes not because others do, but because brown shoes are for people with no taste, as pink shirts
Just stick to white and light blue, while stripes may be fine in certain offices there is 0% upside - internships are nerve wracking enough without the added worry if whether or not you are dressed appropriately / whether your colleagues are judging you.
If fridays are casual fridays, the brown brogues should be fine, otherwise definitely dont wear them. Maybe play it safe on the first/second friday by just wearing suit pants + shirt + brown shoes and get a sense about how casual people are.
