Standard Chartered Bank DCM prep London
Never really prepared for DCM before.
I am well-versed in general IB prep, including M&A, and I know the standard interview format, question types, and answers (400 IB), etc.
Was wondering, however, considering the context, does anyone have any specific suggestions on what I should prepare for and research (in terms of asking questions) regarding SCB DCM?
Anything firm or division-specific, as well as the current macro-political environment.
Any tips appreciated.

SCB-Specific PreparationFirm Knowledge: - Research SCB's recent DCM deals and league table rankings - Understand their geographic focus (Asia-Pacific strength, London as European hub) - Know their key industry coverage areas and recent mandates - Study their capital markets platform and how DCM fits within it
Current Macro Environment: - UK/European interest rate environment and BoE policy - Brexit implications for debt issuance and cross-border deals - Asian market dynamics (SCB's strength) - ESG/sustainability-linked bonds trend
Interview StrategyBehavioral Focus: DCM groups prioritize cultural fit heavily - they want someone they can work long hours with. Prepare stories showing: - Teamwork under pressure - Client service orientation - Attention to detail in repetitive tasks
Technical Questions to Expect: - Balance of Payments concepts - How rating agencies work - Debt capital structure optimization - Cross-currency considerations
Smart Questions to Ask: - Recent market trends they're seeing in their coverage areas - How they're adapting to changing regulatory environment - Their view on sustainable finance growth
The key insight from WSO veterans: DCM is niche, so showing genuine interest and understanding of their specific business model will set you apart from generic IB candidates.
