I'm a rising sophomore at a target school and it seems like most people are starting technicals already and are anticipating applications to release earlier than previous years.
I asked my friends at non targets and they seemed to say the same thing. Will we eventually see a year where banks are recruiting during freshman year?

Yes, applications continuously creep earlier and earlier every year, though I bet it'd slow down eventually. Better start grinding those technicals!
I think a lot of kids starting early because of the rumors evercore was going to release applications in september or whatever. i dont think they actually are but its generally good to be more prepared than not. I landed a solid offer and had interviews at most good firms and also started studying technicals in august.
technicals arent just important for interviews like most people think, it was necessary for me to get into my schools finance/banking clubs
my peers at non targets were generally more sweaty than those i knew at targets. i think a lot of kids who are at nontargets have a greater sense of urgency/motivation to "catch up". i'm actually a huge advocate for nontargets who are really locked in on their interview prep
