"Stay In touch" - do you guys mean it

When a student coffees you, whether in person or virtually, do you say "Stay in touch", or "feel free to reach out if you need anything" as a formality, or do you mean it?

What about when you get this as a reply to your TY email?

Its not really a question of if you want to - realistically no one WANTs to keep up with you like you're their friend unless you have some special connect outside a cold email. The question is if you did reach out again, would they take the time to pick up the phone and if they send that they're saying yea alright whatever. If you're not a bot and remotely enjoyable to talk to no one will have objections if you reach out again provided there's time.

What it really means is “give me an update on anything exciting or interesting like if you accept an IB offer, which makes me feel like I didn’t waste my time on you, or if you want to chat for 2 minutes max a very serious question or decision or conundrum which will entertain me where a experienced professional‘s insight may be invaluable”.
