Summer intership during placement year

Hi, next year im going to a target uni doing a 4 year integrated masters engineering course (no option for 3 year). There is a mandatory 6 month industrial placement over the summer months in the 3rd year which has to be related to the degree. However this coincides with when summer internships for investment banks take place, im not really sure what to do, my choices are: apply for summer interships for my 2nd year? Or go to a different uni (still a target) which doesnt have a placement. 

Any advice on what i can do is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
