Syracuse University

I'm going to be attending Syracuse University in the fall as a Finance major. I know that the school isn't heavily recruited, but after a Google search, I've found that many SU alumni are in top positions at Meryll Lynch and other banks. What are you opinions on the school? What should I do be doing in order to secure a job?

Also, I live in NYC so during the summer I intend on taking advantage of internship opportunities. Since I probably won't be able to land an IB internship until Junior year, will it matter if I work at a company like MTV or NBC Networks?

Thanks.

Plenty of SU people out there. Obviously not the same rep as an Ivy or UVA/Mich/Duke, but the school is concentrated with NJ/NY/CT students. Get versed in sports cause that's all people are going to talk to you about.

Be prepared to be cold and miserable for 4 years. Get wasted at Chucks and get a sticky Bun.

This is way over zealous. I go to a complete non-targ (big ten, probably on par with Syracuse education) in the midwest and I have decent (not great) grades and decent (again, not great) experience, and through networking I've seen great success in getting first rounds and even super days. If you work your ass off in preparing for interviews and network hard you can get into banking. It is beyond reasonable for OP to get into banking from Syracuse, as long as he works hard and makes solid connections.
