Transfer to London - NYC to London transfer?

Anybody here pull the NYC->London transfer off for a BB? How realistic is this transfer? Where is it on the spectrum of just mentioning to HR and as long as you're solid it will happen, to the stars have to align and you have to be under the wing of a senior banker who transfers there. Is it harder/easier for associates vs. analysts?

What is a reasonable time before one should expect to be granted the transfer? Is a 2nd year analyst stint overseas unrealistic?

 

Why would you transfer to a place that A) Hates you and B) Wants all your money?
