UBS Finance (NY) or Citi Markets (London)

I'm a student from a target school with GPA 3.5+. I was a little late getting started on the whole recruiting process for SA positions. I currently have two internship offers for Summer 2018: one at UBS in the Finance Group in NYC and one at Citi in Markets in London.

For a full time position next year, I'm hoping to move into IB in NYC at a BB. So for this summer, my goals are to gain experience in finance and network to best prepare myself for FT recruiting in the Fall. I was wondering if anyone has experience with either of these group? Which opportunity would allow me to best interview for IB in the Fall from the perspective of both gaining relevant experience and being able to effectively speak to why IB instead of the Finance Group or Markets?

Also, if anyone is familiar with the mobility between divisions at either of these firms, that would be greatly appreciated. Is it easier to move internally from UBS Finance or Citi Markets to IB for FT? Also, does the location matter from a networking perspective if I want to be in NYC FT?

Thanks very much!

Citi has a fairly good internal mobility and being a SA in one team doesn't mean you cannot ask for a FT in another team (particularly if there is interaction), if you play it wisely. Even between locations there should be opportunities, although more likely a few years down line (i.e. you need to do 1-2 years in London but Citi should be able to accommodate that if you want to go back home). What's the UBS finance group? is it front office? if it's BO/MO, it willbe difficult for anyone recommending you UBS over Citi. Last but not least, the reputation of the two shops are not really comparable right now IMO, although UBS seems to be done with the restructuring and remains a respectable shop.

Thanks very much for the response. Greatly appreciate it. Yes, finance group is MO at UBS, dealing with risk and revenue and cost management. They stress the team-oriented nature of the work.

If I were to do a summer in either of these positions, which position would make me a more attractive candidate to interview for FT in investing banking at the same or different bank in the fall?
