What are the average working hours for an IB/PE intern in London?
I’ve only worked in NY, so I’m not familiar with how things are done in London.
What are typical hours like for an intern in London? What time do interns get to the office and when do they generally leave? Are they expected to work on the weekend too?
Also, do interns in London get vacation days? Say it’s a 6-month off cycle internship, how many days off would an intern generally be allowed to take (and for clarity I’m more interested in the number of days interns actually take off, so if they are given a 2 week vacation but none of them actually use it please let me know).
Few years ago and at a MM corporate broking focussed shop so may not be totally representative, but I did probably 7:45am-10pm-ish 4 days a week (with the occasional past midnight finish depending on deadlines), finished by 7 on a Friday and didn't work on weekends. Didn't take a day of holiday in my three months
Was an off-cycle at a BB. Was working analyst hours so on average would come in at 9.30, log off at 1-2am, Friday around 10pm, weekend work on Sunday (Saturday protected). Had 14 days of holidays but only took 2 days off.
This is accurate. And occasionally, there would be 3-5am nights and maybe 1-2 all-nighters
Intern at a MM PE shop
In at 8:30, out by ~8pm most days
Fridays finish at 5-6
Barely any weekend work (~5 hours tops)
