What do you wish you knew before you hit the desk FT?

I’m currently in my final year of college with a FT BB (GS/JPM/MS) Markets role following an internship conversion this summer gone.

Final year is not half as demanding as I originally thought it was and I find myself with about 20 hours of free time a week.

What skills do you wish you were brushed up on prior to starting FT? Excel, MS Office, a coding language, greater knowledge on prior transactions etc…

Don’t go above and beyond. Start decently strong and show you’re competent and hard working, but draw the line by 11pm to midnight on most workdays. Unless you have a pitch the next day or urgent deal deliverables, you can often wait until the next morning to work on whatever you’re doing. This way you get 8 hr of sleep every night and don’t burn out.
