What to do during your MSc degree for I-banking?
I am doing the MSc in Finance and Accounting at LSE next year, the program lasts just a year. What should be my next step (and when should I take it) to get into I-banking (most likely London). Should I just wait for fall quarter, and contact the career service at LSE? Should I start busting my sweet arse this summer, and try on my own to fine some sort of connection?
Also I never had any I-banking experience per se, I interned for a stockbroker as well as the US commercial service but that's it. What type of entry job should I look into? Somebody mentioned a summer associate program in a previous post of mine; what does that exactly entails?
I have the feeling that you don't know much about investment banking careers, otherwise you'd definitely know that summer associate programs are summer interships for MBA students (NOT MSc students!) between their 1st and 2nd year. Please browse through the banks' recruitment sites before asking these obvious questions.
As far as your recruitment concerns: first decide for yourself whether you'd like to strategically apply for summer internship (and if you succeed, try to join half-way during the year) or graduate positions. If you opt for the latter, you'd have to go through the regular graduate recruitment trajectory like anybody else except fast-trackers.
