2nd year analyst wants to move to London

I’m an analyst at a boutique middle market investment bank based on the West Coast. I’m looking to move to London next spring.

Stats: •1.5 years of work experience •Passed the CFA level 1. •3.3 GPA from a semi-target West Coast school. •1500+ SAT score •730 GMAT

Questions: 1. What is the job market like for investment banking analysts in London at the moment? I don’t think I have enough work experience to land a typical “exit position” at a PE or hedge fund, so a lateral move to an ibanking analyst position is probably the most feasible. I know that the economic turmoil that is hitting America is also affecting London. Will I still be able to find a job?

  1. What is the best way to go about recruiting while still in America? I think I’d have to secure a position before moving.

  2. Is it going to be an issue that the timing is somewhat “off cycle”? My firm pays bonuses in January, so I don’t want to leave before then, but I know that recruiting for Ibanking typically occurs in the fall.

  3. As far as timing goes, when should I begin applying so that I can secure a position in the spring (start March or April) and have a few weeks to move?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  1. Job market n IBD is weak. Most banks are not hiring jr. laterals.
  2. Networking/ connections/ headhunters
  3. Timing cycle- just depends when they need to hire. You will not be considered as a 'graduate'.

You will be in competition with hundreds/thousands of applicants trying to work in London. No work permits are needed for the every expanding EU/EEA residents.

Standard Applicant:

Top Uni in EU-Oxbridge, LSE, LBS, SSE....and on and on Masters Degree. Bi or multi lingual EC's and Strong Proven Experience/Background

CFA/SAT/GMAT will not matter. GPA translates on the lowside.

Just a suggestion-Best to get a MFE in England target-And even that is no guarantee.

Reality sucks.

Good luck.
