Applying for summer in the US?
I am studying in the UK as undergrad, is it close to impossible to get a place in the US if I apply for a summer internship there instead of London?

Definitely. Had a couple friends who went through this process in London. I believe you can select which office you'd like to work for, but its absolutely critical that you network with NY folks so in addition to your application, HR receives your resume from NYC employees as well.
Edit* You can select the office on the application is what i mean
Thanks for your reply :) Sadly I do not know how to get in touch with NY employees as at the networking events at Uni we mostly get to talk with people working in the London offices
