As a graduate from the UK, how to get a graduate job out in the US?

Title really summarises my question. I am a STEM graduate but thinking I would prefer to start my career in the U.S. and wondered if there was a common route? How would I go about it?

there are hundreds of threads on WSO outlining the odds, risks, opportunities and ways. Instead of explaining that all again, you could use the search feature.

In short: if you are not a USC, married to a USC, first degree relative to a USC or LPR, DV winner, athlete, singer, actor, national award/prize winner, author, politician, or on a religious visa, with exceptional skills (H/S/W./..) or in some kind of gov sponsored program: I would forget about it. (not a complete list of visas, programs, or ways into the country)

This was probably meant as a joke, however: A relatively large amount of people do get their work permit through marriage. This is especially common for the English speaking countries i.e. US with AU/UK/IE/CA

So if someone would want to live & work across the pond, marriage is a valid route.
