Hi all,
I wanted to get some suggestions and points on how to make a transition from a back office finance role at a bank to a role in commercial/corporate banking and if it is even in the realm of possibility. I have completed Omega Performance Credit training which is what most entry level commercial/corp banking analysts go through and am a CFA level II candidate. Any help would be great.

As someone who transitioned from M&A ibanking to business banking, I'd say it is doable. However, you're going to really have to find someone who will take a chance on you. So I recommend networking (which is what everyone recommends) but also trying some lessor known banks; credit unions are also a great opportunity. Most don't do business/commercial banking, but some do, and they usually don't pay as well as community and traditional banks would pay, so you may be able to get in there and get some experience.
Sounds like your biggest roadblock would be selling, and not the finance aspect. Go into sales mode, if you can - be a hunter, prospect for networking meetings, FOLLOW UP FOLLOW UP FOLLOW UP, and close the deal. That's what they're looking for.
Now, if I can trade info for info: what did you think of your Omega Performance training? Did you do the "Small Business Lending" or "Commercial Lending" courses?
