Best option for FT IB

Last summer I interned at a small IB firm that doesn't hand out full-time offers to their interns. I was late in the game for recruiting the previous year so I didn't have many options. So far I haven't had much luck with full-time recruiting. I graduate a semester early (December 2023), so this might give me unique options for what I could do if I don't land a full-time position by the end of this year.

With the current market, is it best if I start an MSF program? Do I keep looking into spring 2024 for any last-minute opportunities? Do I start recruiting for non-IB roles that I could switch into IB from (and what would those be)?

I really appreciate any and all help.

Hey there! It sounds like you're in a bit of a pickle, but don't worry, there are plenty of options available to you.

Starting an MSF program could be a good move, especially if you're interested in furthering your education and gaining more specialized knowledge in finance. This could potentially make you more attractive to employers and open up more opportunities.

If you're set on breaking into IB, you could definitely keep looking into spring 2024 for last-minute opportunities. Persistence can often pay off in the job market, and you never know when a perfect opportunity might come up.

As for recruiting for non-IB roles, that could be a smart strategy as well. There are many roles that could potentially serve as a stepping stone into IB. For example, roles in equity research, corporate finance, or even management consulting could provide you with valuable skills and experiences that are transferable to IB.

Remember, networking is key in the finance industry. Stay in touch with your contacts from your internship and make new connections wherever possible. You never know who might be able to help you land your dream job.

Keep your chin up and keep pushing forward. You've got this!
