Career Advice for Someone w/Mental Health Issues

Hi, I'm someone who is diagnosed with mental health issues, and my situation has gotten a lot worse after working at a BB for 1 year+. The dosage of my medication has been steadily going up, and I'm considering switching jobs in order to prioritize my well being. Because of my conditions I find it very difficult to stay in a high intensity job like IB/PE/HF as I require a lot of personal time to recharge to avoid breakdowns and panic attacks, and most of these jobs require for you to be on-call 24/7, which I find really difficult given my conditions.

I personally really enjoy thinking critically about different companies and learning about different industries like what I imagine one would get to do in a PE role, but I don't think moving to PE would do any good to my headspace. So I wanted to see if any one has any recommendations for a job with manageable intensity that still allows me to pursue the more intellectual side of finance.

On a separate note, to the monkeys who faced similar issues out there -- how did you balance your health conditions and your career? I am diagnosed with chronic depression, anxiety, and ADHD (ah yes, the holy trinity), and sometimes I just couldn't shake the feeling that I would never be able to have a fulfilling and successful career. These health issues are huge shackles that have been weighing me down on performance. I'm really scared of speaking to some of my personal mentors irl about this because I'm not sure if they could relate and overall finance is still a very conservative industry that isn't exactly known for its empathy, so it'd be really great if I could hear from people who have been through this and learned how to manage.

Wow - I really questioned whether it was me that posted this when reading it, as almost every line of this post is what I’m currently going through, feeling and thinking.

While I don’t have any advice to give as I’m in the same predicament, hang in there. I’m personally having a real hard time with it right now and intrigued to see what responses you receive on here.

Take care.
