Carmax Auto Finance Strategy Analyst or P&G Purchasing
Hi everyone,
I have a couple of internship offers on the table (CAF strategy analyst and P&G Purchasing), and would like some help making the decision. I'm extremely excited about both offers. However, there is not too much information out there on either program, so if anyone could answer any of the following questions, it would be greatly appreciated:
Which job provides the most growth/learning out of school?
Which offers the more dynamic work environment (I don't want to get there and find out the work is mundane).
Which requires skills that are more transferrable to other jobs (bus dev/strategy, consulting, etc)
Which company will help me the most when it comes to getting into a top b-school? Which will be the better "career kick-starter" (hate myself for using so many buzz words in one post).
Thanks so much in advance. This forum has been incredibly helpful, as I don't have a ton of guidance in my life to help me make these decisions.
I think the Carmax auto finance strategy analyst position sounds very interesting...with that being said P&G is a huge company with a better brand-name than Carmax for B-School and you will probably have opportunities move around the company if you don't like the role you're in. If you plan on going to B-School I'm not sure if you'll have to worry about gaining a lot of transferable skills.
Strategy over purchasing any day.
A strategy role will allow you to tell a good story when it comes to corp strat and consulting interviews. Plus this provides more of a "top-down" perspective, in terms of learning about the business.
Purchasing (at most companies) on the other hand is really just glorified shopping for components of products. In the last manufacturing company I worked for (before I moved to finance), purchasing would literally go out and try to get the best bids for individual components (screws, cables, metal parts, etc.). Sounds like a dead end job.
Just my opinion.
Is this a serious question?
Finance Strategy >> Purchasing, unless Carmax has a really crappy and unprofessional corporate culture
