I have been put in a fairly difficult situation. A little background to me, I had been working in London for the past year in a small corporate finance boutique focusing primarily on equity fundraising with some M&A. I have an MA in a finance related subject from a target university (or what would be considered target in the UK) with a good GPA equivelant (undergraduate wasnt as good).
I decided i needed to move to a larger firm preferably a BB or MM IBank. Over a couple of months I interviewed with a few places and eventually landed an equity S&T role at a MM IBank after three rounds of interviews.
I completed my contracts and background checks and proceeded to hand in my notice at my last firm which I worked out over the next month. I was supposed to be starting at the MM IBank next week following a two week holiday with my family. I received a call two weeks ago whilst still working out my notice to say that the head of the group who had interviewed me twice and ultimately decided to hire me had left, however his replacement was excited to have me on board.
I received another call two days ago to say that the replacement had now decided not to honour all of his predecessors hires and my offer was being rescinded (I am not the only person this has happened to). I will be receiving a months pay for my troubles.
Obviously I am not in the best position as I am now unemployed and the recruiting season for Analysts has largely passed. I am mainly applying for off cycle internships and any analyst roles that i can find with MM's and BB's. I am using the same networking and application techniques i picked up here among other places that I used before.
Has anyone been in a similar situation before? Other than what I have mentioned above is there anything I should be doing at the moment?
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Can you try to get back in there and interview with the new guy? Or is this a closed door at this point?
that sucks man how could they f*ck you like that? Isn't that offer binding once both parties sign?
Where is the former group head now? I think he is your best shot at landing a job at this point, seeing as how he already interviewed and ultimately decided to hire you. He's got to have contacts at other firms whom he can get in touch with on your behalf.
Also, make sure that your resume reflects that you received an offer, but it was rescinded due to circumstances outside of your control.
haha and how do you suggest he does that?

that would just be ridiculous...
It was just a simple asterisk and a short sentence under the guy's work section of his resume. It showed that he actually had what it took to land an offer in high finance and he was just screwed by extenuating circumstances. That's something that interviewers can definitely identify with. Of course, it also helped that this guy was great at interviews, but I know that at the very least, that one line on his resume didn't hurt his chances.

Interviewing with the new guy is apparently not an option. And yes as the contract were signed that is why they have to pay me for a month (still not enough for the time it will take me to land something new).
Thanks design a few people have suggested that to me. I am trying to track down where he has gone should i give him a call or drop an email? I will jsut say what has happened and hopefully he can make an opening where he has gone.
When it comes to putting it on my cv i am not sure... Everyone who i have spoken to has said that when it comes to first rounds when im asked why i left my last job to say exactly what happened because as you said it shows i have what it takes to land an offer.
