Distressed PE recruiting process and good funds in NYC

Has anyone been through the recruiting process for distressed PE funds and can share how the process went and what do the HHs/funds look for in candidates? I've been through the process at a couple funds for internships during school and they were ~1-2 rounds with principals/associates and then a case study followed by a final round with behavorial with a lot of members of the team. I'm guessing that it might be different while recruiting with 1-2 years prior exp.

What do these funds look for in their candidates. I won't be doing ib rather will be joining a distressed hf out of school so was wondering how the process will look like for distressed pe recruiting maybe ~2 years down the line if I'm looking for another seat. My GPA is also below 3.6 (STEM major at target) so I would likely take the GMAT and try to get 730+ to make up for it. Any other things I should be prepared for / aware of?
