Pretty much self explanatory. Are applicants supposed to network to get offers? If that’s relevant I’m a sophomore at US target with strong gpa and experiences that would like to work in London.

No you don't. US offices tend to filter out applicants through networking/referrals. London offices instead use automated systems to filter out applicants such as psychometric tests, numeric and reading assessments, and recorded video interviews.
Are you a UK citizen or US citizen? If the latter, you might want to start in a place like NYC at a firm that has offices in London and then transfer at a later date.
I am from continental Europe. No US permanent work authorization
