A good university is prestigious because of its Alumni excellence and if you’re a part of that university you get access to that alumni i.e. network, which
1. Gives you more opportunities
2. Makes you an attractive candidate
Its good to have skills but not at the cost of building a network of people that are pitching for you internally. No skill can ever compensate for that.

let me know if u get a top IB offer and try to on-cycle lol. yes it does. is it as wide of a gap in terms of prestige 30 years ago (Ivies or bust)? no. does it matter? 100%

u should go to the best academic school, where u can learn and grow (as an athlete if possible), that has a strong, helpful alumni network, and have fun (without grinding 24/7).
