EB Lateral Office Locations

Hi all,

I'm an incoming first year analyst at an EB's regional office (SF/Houston) and am pretty set on making an internal lateral to the firm's NY office after a year. I really like the regional group (interned with them) and our company culture, and would like to stay with the firm but move to NYC

How long should I wait to reach out to HR about the lateral process? Is there a graceful way to approach this (not burn bridges with the regional group/ make HR more likely to approve the lateral)? What other consequences might this move bring? Would I be better off/would it be easier lateraling to a different bank in NYC?

Appreciate any and all thoughts!
