First day tips

Bring a packed lunch for the first few days in case you don't eat out with your team on day 1 and to back you up while you figure out the eating pattern for the rest of the week. You can always eat it as a snack or leave it in your desk/office fridge if you end up eating out

Whatever they tell you about dress code, go up a level for the first day. Business casual = business professional on day 1. Some firms have different ideas about what counts as business casual, and it's better to be overdressed than underdressed until you get a look at what everyone else is wearing

If you're a lady, bring a purse big enough to hold a pair of flats. Your feet will thank you when walking to and from the office, if a heel breaks, or your shoes get too uncomfortable. Have an extra pantyhose hidden too, if you wear them

Have a white background headshot that you like ready for your ID badge and email picture. Trying to quickly take a headshot selfie is not fun

Start being friendly and the one who's always down for a quick chat as early as possible. Starting off as "seen and not heard" will make it harder to get friendly later. First impressions and setting habits early matters

Get friendly with other interns. Never know who's going to open the door for you if and when you forget your badge inside

If you have video training and orientation videos, they're much more enjoyable if you're watching them in a group with other interns. See if you can get a conference room
