Getting Hired into a Placement Agent

I am currently looking to move into an independent placement agent or the placing arm of a bank in London as an analyst. I work at a fund services firm in a client facing role providing GPs with regulatory and structuring advice. I have been trying to make a move for a while, however, because of the market conditions and the fact that placement agents prefer to hire investment bankers I have not been able to make much progress on this. I think I would be a great fit for such a role because of my client facing experience in CRM & sales, and my wide exposure to a number of investment strategies across various asset classes. Any advice/help on how to make the move or general advice on placement agents would be appreciated!
