Hours worked outside of NYC?

Do smaller firms tend to have better hours for research associates? Which fields would you say have less hours?
Is there a transition from research associate in any field that provides less hours?

I have no problems working the hours now. I am just wondering if there is any correlation between hours outside of NYC, in major cities, in small cities/regions, etc.. If you have specific examples to please cite.
