What would you think if someone you recommended for a job did not perform well in an interview? Would you dislike that person now? Could that person redeem themselves and how?

Unless they did something inexcusable, like showed up super hungover or cursed the interviewer out, no impact at all. Not every candidate is a fit for a given role and you won't get along with every interviewer either. Take it as a learning experience and do better next time would be my advice to them.
