How to jump ship to the PE MF that bought us.

Interested to hear if anyone has experience in a PE MF buying your firm and what the jump to the PE MF would require.

Im doing fine at our small PE firm with a bright future ahead of me. At what point would a jump to the PE MF that bought us be smart? We dont have the fancy schools you have in our country and looking at the hires of the firm that bought us they mainly recruit the HBS GS type.

Should I just wait and advance in the firm im in now, gravitate towords work that include our new owner, just do a great job and send my resume backed by a senior member that the PE MF would know or what?

Cheers.

This will be very firm dependent and also depend on why the firm bought you. If you are getting integrated into their wider team (think BX Life sciences) this will be different than if you are expected to be a separate brand.

It's also going to take some time for the MF senior management to trust your senior management and I can't see your senior guys recommending you to the MF while you are still employed there in the next couple years when they are figuring out their place in the world.

It's not the answer you want to hear but the best way to do this move is probably do a top MBA and you might have enough connection to move into the parent due to the connection.
