But I was under the assumption that US citizens automatically get work visas in the UK and EU with no need to apply. Shouldn't being a US citizen come with perks?

I think OP is referencing post-WWII reconstruction, which is much more recent that the building of America in the 1700's. America legitimately did rebuilt Europe, but I feel like he's forgetting the fact that we have reaped the rewards of that. The global free(ish) market that we have as a result has made everyone's lives better in the US imo.
Thanks I knew that. Kind of weird to draw a line in history so conveniently so that only post WWII reconstruction counts in the credit balance between the EU and US. The two blocs have been helping each other for a very long time (minus some conflicts)
Can also re-frame the issue and say Europe bore the brunt of WW2's cost to save the world from a despotic regime. US would have been next per Mein Kampf. Either way very silly assumption from OP.
You say that as if Europe had a choice in taking the brunt of the WW2 damage. Europe has and will always be a mess. You people can't live in peace for 2 seconds
If you want to get technical France and England didn't have to declare war on Germany after their aggressive invasion of Poland. The UK also could have taken Germany's peace offerings after France fell. England made a choice to carry on and extinguish a malignant state. France tried but failed. So there was in fact a choice made to take out an aggressive Nazi state that led to a domino effect called WW2. In MK Hitler talked about a land-grab in the East and a show-down with the US for super-power status, not of an invasion of the English.
If I'm not mistaken France helped the Americans during their war of independence. That was a choice and led to your country's birth. So why can't the French come into the US willy-nilly?
