Internally Switching to IBD at Goldman Sachs?

Question

I am currently going to be working as an Investment Management Sophmore summer analyst this summer at GS, and I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight surrounding the feasibility of transferring into IBD for next summer. Would it be just as difficult as someone who was not already working at the firm? Since applications are released during my internship in July, would it look poorly for me to switch divisions at such a time?

again Its honestly not going to look that bad as a sophomore. GS strongly encourages networking. Your team may even ask who you've had coffee with and you can let them know and give them a reason that sounds nice (ie looking to learn a bit about other parts of the business/how IBD and IMD might work together/or you met with a TMT analyst cus of a tech pitch you did and you want to see how they think of x company/sector from the banking side. the usual bs). Make it about learning not about screw my group I want to do IBD. again.. as a sophomore..

I did mobility from my sophomore summer to junior summer at GS. Honestly not that difficult if your team is supportive. In a way it's expected for sophomores to do something different their junior summer. My team encouraged me to look at other groups and division and if wanted to stay in my current group I was welcomed to. I will say, it is easier switching groups within the division than it is to go from IMD to IBD.
