Investment operations to analyst?

I’m 18 and have just started an 18-month Investment Operations apprenticeship at BII, where I’m also working towards the CISI and IMC. My role primarily involves fund investment, direct equity and debt instruments, with a current focus on trade settlements. Alongside this, I’m developing skills in DCF valuation, SQL, PowerBi and financial modelling (through CFI) and gaining exposure to using Bloomberg Terminals.

Given my background, I’m leaning towards impact investing, but I’ve built a strong interest in fixed income. My longer-term goal is to transition into an analyst role at an investment bank, hedge fund, or similar buy-side environment by the time I’m 22/23, ideally progressing onto CFA Level 1 as part of that journey before or after the transition.

Do you think this is a realistic path? What would be the best way to position myself for that move? I’d also welcome any other career suggestions you think might fit my skills and interests.
