Is OP job for HF worth anything?

I realize that the odds of breaking into Trading from a BO position are pretty piss poor as it is, but it seems to be that in a hedge fund moving from BO to FO should be literally impossible due to the huge gap in skills and credentials between the two. My question isn't whether working BO is a good way to start your career (I know it's not). Is doing ops at a HF instead of at a BB lowering the odds of me advancing to an FO position from "highly improbable" to "literally impossible"?

I used to do Asia-Pacific PE (kind of like FoF). Now I do something else but happy to try and answer questions on that stuff.
