Is the UK/Europe better hunting grounds for a career switcher?

I'm a mid career IT proefessional for a mid size institutional fund. We currently farm out the fund management to BB's and after reading many posts lately it sounds like the north american market is still thin- Potential career switchers like me don't appear to stand much of a chance. But what of the UK or Europe?
