JPMorgan vs Capital One offer

I have 2 offers from both JPMorgan and Capital One. One is based in Columbus, ohio the other is based in Richmond, Virginia.

Yes, JPMorgan looks good on a résumé, but Capital One is offering far more in salary as well as relocation expenses.

What's the best move?

Capital One's HQ is in Richmond so that would be the place to be for Capital One. The higher salary also makes sense as from what I have heard they historically have paid more for the commercial banking/underwriting roles. I think you lifestyle will also be better at Capital One, however cannot speak to the JPM Columbus office.

If i'm not mistaken richmond is also near DC if location matters.

If he's a janitor at COF, who gives a shit about salary or lifestyle. Back to the point... what are the positions?

NOTE: Being facetious about being janitor, but you get my point.

As everyone above has said, the type of position really matters here.

That said, I can make some generalizations that might help. From what I know, most spots at JPM in Columbus are back office or commercial banking related. If that's not what you want, then look elsewhere. If you have an offer for COF's Business Analyst or FRP programs, definitely go with that over back office JPM.

Also, for what it's worth, Richmond is not really that close to DC as the above poster said. It's like 1.5 hours away. And COF's headquarters are in McLean (DC area), not Richmond. But COL in RVA is really low, so if your offer is 60k+ you'd be doing just fine.

COF FRPs often rotate between Richmond and DC. No idea if they adjust your salary if you start in Richmond then go to DC office. Point is if you prefer a major city you can get it through COF after putting in alittle time in Richmond.

Thanks for the replies.

The JPM offer is in asset management which is definitely a back office type role, the capital one offer is the business analyst division. The salaries are JPM: 48k with 10k bonus. Capital one 60k 10k bonus as well.

I'm more than likely going to take the capital one offer due to the recommendations you've all thrown out

I would take the business analyst division. Its basically internal consulting. Alot of smart people are definitely in that group and that group (aside from strategy analysts) is the most sought after for incoming graduates. Also looks great for b-school

Yeah performance bonus or is it overtime? Definitely go with the BA position though. Plenty of dough considering cost of living and good experience.

According to my recruiter you receive a performance bonus, as well as stock discounts. I've never been to Virginia before so I'm not sure what the culture is like. (Columbus native)

Capital One is my choice right now.

Good decision.

Go to CapOne. If you're in a segregated BO role, your options will be severely limited. The bAnalyst position is higher paid and can lead to consulting type work, plus you're in the HQ which on its own lends itself to opportunities.

I literally just spoke with someone who came out of the JPM office you're talking about and they hated it....don't be stupid, take the CapOne job
