Lateral interview

Hi all

I previously posted a thread whereby I asked for advice as I was getting shafted by the MD/VP in my team. 5 months later, I applied to another department for a lateral role. Following my final interview with the MD, I sent a follow-up email and the MD replied "...greatly enjoyed the conversation. We all think highly of you so I hope we can do something'.

I am aware that other internal candidates are also in the final round. Thoughts on what this could mean? Internal politics?
