Lateraling from UK social housing association to M&A

I recently started an investment analyst role at a social housing association in the UK - I think the equivalent/similar in the US is affordable housing. My firm is a charity and holds £bns in property, mostly regular houses, and it does do development but this isn’t a gigantic part of the business at the moment.

Currently my job is primarily focussed on choosing which properties to sell, though the role will expand into different areas in the future- it seems really open to what it could be, and I have good autonomy to choose, but could involve merger analysis (which is common in this sector) and bigger development plans analysis.

My aspiration is to work in M&A - I have some experience through a 5 month internship I did at a small boutique post graduation (I graduated at the end of 2022).

Is my current role something that could likely lead to a lateral to M&A in the U.K.? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
