London to Toronto? (IB)

Is it possible to lateral from London (BB/EB/Reputable MM) to a Toronto office (same or different bank) with relative ease?

Does this become more difficult as you move past your analyst stint or is it easier?

Does the cache of working in a tier 1 market like London carry into lateral recruitment to a 2nd/3rd tier market like Toronto?

If anyone has any information regarding this situation i’d greatly appreciate it, and would love to hear your personal stories if you have any.

NOTE: I’m a Canadian citizen so VISA isn’t an issue and i’m sure I can spin why I want to return home because i’m Canadian.

I’m a Canadian working at a mega fund in London. I wouldn’t think that you would be able to switch offices so quickly, if you just joined would take you minimum 12/18 months until your office basically juices some value out of you.

The T1 market will make it possible and easier but I would suggest being proactive about the switch instead of bringing it up last second. Let your direct reports and HR know your intentions and wants 6 months in for example.

I have seen many IB analyst move from London to Dubai for example due to a strong story or conviction. Not as many associated and VPs unless they are leading a particular division. Seen an EB VP in London move to Dubai to run the energy IB division for example.

I have rarely seen moves from Dubai to London or NY so your situation is the more common one. I suggest doing it earlier if you see your career growing in Canada.

Didn’t have much Toronto specific knowledge but hope this helped.
