Masters and Grad sceme Clash
I have just received a S&T summer analyst role at a BB. The plan is to convert this offer and start the FT role in 2024.
I am in my third year at uni in an MSCi Mathematics course. However, I would prefer to convert this into a BSc course and do something more useful to me (than pure maths), e.g. a Computational Finance MSc. However, these masters tend to be 12 months long - ending in September 2024. The FT role would start in July 2024. There would then be a 2-3 month clash period, where I would be starting the grad scheme, and at the same time, ending the Masters.
So my question is, should I just do the MSCi Mathematics to avoid this clash? Or does anyone have experience with navigating this kind of situation? I don't believe the BB is flexible with start dates for the grad scheme.
Thanks in advance!
Not knowledgeable on the matter but believe this is a common case with 12 months masters ending in Sept versus FT starting in July. Could be the case that from June onwards, there is no teaching but only writing your dissertation. Besides, you might not really care about the grade anymore given that you've already started in the job.
Truth be told, unless you're on a super specific desk, both degrees will probably be just as useful (/useless) for the job itself.
Right that makes sense thank you. Yeah it seems that there is not much value in doing a masters as opposed to just starting the grad scheme straight after the summer. Also, the idea of an internship and dissertation at the same time sounds (unnecessarily) awful hahaha.
Get the offer then let’s chat
This is a silly comment. Masters application deadlines are well before the summer internship starts.
can you learn how to use the reply function, cheers.
