Masters in Finance Summer Internships
Hi,
So I was planning to pursue a Master's in Finance at Warwick Business School, and I had a couple of questions in mind. Kindly help me out!
So firstly, I have 2-3 month relevant internships and 1.5 years of full-time relevant work experience( all of which are not very known or reputed firms) BEFORE I join WBS this September (if I get an admit), so do I stand a chance to secure an internship in BB Investment Banks, or is it just mandatory to go to a top tier uni itself?
Secondly, do Masters's Students starting the program this (fall 2022) year apply for internship roles for next year (and then while doing the internship next year, convert it to full time), or do they directly apply for Grad Schemes?
Kindly advise me in this regard
Best,
Aibel
Warwick is a top-tier name (semi-target after LSE, LBS, Oxbridge) so should not be an issue for recruiting
When I did my MSc, many peers with 1-2 years exp. (think 1 - 3 internships) got BB/EB offers no problem
In terms of recruiting, you can apply for internships or grad schemes (either). Bear in mind though that at some BBs you have to be in your penultimate year for the internship so you may not qualify and for some you can only apply to 1 program so will need to choose. I would recommend doing a mixture if you go this route
good luck!
Hi,
Thanks for sharing your insight, it really means alot!
So when you specified "penultimate year", won't my master 1-year program fall under this category?
Also please correct me if I'm wrong, so the best thing to would be to apply to Summer Internships 2023 (Because they are easier than Grad Schemes), and then while doing the internship, try to convert it to a full time offer.
Lastly, if you dont mind, can you tell me how EXACTLY do we know when do these banks open up their application portal? Should we keep checking each banks individual website ?
Under a 1-year Masters you would be considered a final year student. BBs expect you to take the SA and then come back 1 year later as a full time analyst, which is why they target penultimate year students (i.e. if you apply for a 2023 SA they expect you to graduate in 2024)
However I've seen many candidates on Linkedin who have been able to land a SA despite being final year/masters students. The best advice would be to talk to them and see how they made it
