Networking Virtually
Hey, I have a summer internship in the MO of a BB bank and although I'm interested in my role, I want to make a move to IB after my graduation.
I was told that if I perform well I could request to transfer and could be fast tracked to AC stage for the graduate scheme. I think it would help if I also networked but I'm not sure how to go about it, can I just openly say that I'm interested in moving to IB to members of staff outside of my team? Wouldn't that just look like I'm not interested in my current internship?
First, keep in mind that this is more common than you think. There are definitely already people at the bank who made the transition from MO to FO. Second, it's best if you set up informal networking calls to "express interest.' That way it doesn't seem like you are using anyone or if a disgruntled staffer asks, you can just say you wanted to learn more.
