No summer internship but I have spring weeks, what do I do now?

Hello, unfortunately this year's internship cycle has left me with no summer internship offers. I do STEM at a UK target and had some spring weeks (no return offers unfortunately), which helped me get into interviews/ACs with plenty of firms, but my shitty interview skills stopped me from getting any offer as well.

I didn't really get into applying for springs until 2nd year (I planned to do a masters) and now I'm stuck here about to go into 4th year with no summer internship experience.

What should I do?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some actionable steps you can take:

  1. Cold Email Smaller Firms or Startups:

  2. Polish Your CV and Cover Letter:

    • Spend the summer refining your CV and cover letter. Make sure they are tailored to the roles you are applying for and highlight any relevant experience, including your spring weeks.
  3. Practice Interviews and Tests:

    • Focus on improving your interview skills. Practice common interview questions and consider doing mock interviews. Utilize resources like the WSO Mock Interviews to get feedback from experienced professionals.
  4. Network:

    • Reach out to current analysts and professionals in the industry to review your CV and provide advice. Networking can also open up opportunities for internships or full-time roles.
  5. Gain Any Relevant Experience:

    • Try to secure any form of internship or work experience, even if it’s unpaid or not directly related to your field. Any experience is better than none and can help you build your resume.
  6. Reflect and Improve:

    • Reflect on the feedback you received during your interviews and work on those areas. This could involve improving technical skills, enhancing your understanding of the industry, or working on your soft skills.

By following these steps, you can make the most of your current situation and improve your chances for future opportunities.
