Ratting Recruiter

Is it common practice in the industry or am I unfortunate enough to coffee chat with wrong, deceitful person?

I commenced off-cycle position at MM bank 2 weeks ago. Since return offers are not guaranteed, I kept networking with other banks (UK). I did not neglect my deliverables though. One asso from BB bank turned out to be a good friend of asso I work directly with. She ratted to her friend about the coffee chat. The implications of this obnoxious attitude are obvious.

To preempt, I was networking to have other options, if I don't get conversion offer at MM

It’s a fine line to tread and, unfortunately, people like this do exist to try and get “one up” in any way they can.

It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad thing to have coffee chats, I’d just keep my cards closer to my chest next time.

Any time I have thought about leaving a role, I tell people at the last moment (other than those i’m really close with), when I’m about to leave.
