Recruiting struggles (how much more can I take?)

Worked hard during internship. Got coffee with the team, they gave me great reviews and no negative feedback. Proceed to get screwed over and no return. No problem, I'll just apply to all FT positions in multiple locations and network hard as hell to salvage this. EBs instantly lost interest in me after phone screen when I explain I didn't get the return. Oh well, I don't need to work at an EB. Maybe I can get more traction with BBs? Jk all of the BB vacancies have magically been eliminated either without even taking anyone or because seniors decided they don't need to run an external process despite me networking with 10+ people who pushed my resume. Maybe I can get into an MM? Nope, 90% of MMs aren't recruiting and the 10% are a coinflip and acting wishy washy with me right now. Maybe I can do Big 4 TAS? Nope no positions open. Maybe I can do corporate banking, capital markets, S&T, venture capital, private equity, equity research, or asset management? Nope, no positions open or they don't want me because I didn't get a return.

Big 4 Audit here I come

Just keep the momentum and keep plugging away. You'll find one offer if you just keep pushing. Don't give up.

You gotta change your mindset. You didn't get "screwed over," it just didn't happen the way you wanted it to - that's showbiz.

The only thing you can do is keep moving forward. Get creative, think of different types of roles that will set you up for success in pursuit of whatever your ultimate goal is.

Maybe that's a role that positions you well for an MBA to take a shot at an MBA associate role somewhere. Or, maybe, you find something way more interesting to you and make a career of it.

Being a defeatist will absolutely crush you in the long run. Every "loss" is an opportunity to grow.

I know it sounds like happy bullshit, but it's the way it works when you're stuck in a tight spot.

The fact that you say MMs are acting ‘wushy washy’ just shows your attitude is the problem tbh😭 You clearly had the EB/BB only mentality and it shows

I just meant they’ve been giving off mixed signals and really drawing out their recruiting process so i’m not totally sure where i stand with them. i didn’t even intern at a BB/EB. Stop acting smart with me o wise “intern”

I was in a similar situation. I had interned in a group that gave me a return offer but one where I didn’t see myself working, as I wanted to be on west coast rather than midwest. This was back in 2019 when the market was decently strong. I went into senior year to look for ft roles and even with an offer at a mm, I was barely getting traction.

I spent the next 6 months calling and networking with groups in sf before finally getting a role at a mm tech group. Stay persistent and keep looking for ways to improve yourself day after day. It can get very tiring and discouraging but stay positive and make sure to rest plenty
