Recruiting to PE from MBB in first year

I am an incoming analyst at Mckinsey NY, interested in PE, from a top target. Is it possible to recruit my first year, assuming I know 100% that I want to go to PE afterwards? What are my chances? Does anyone know the numbers on the numbers of consultants that apply to firms like NMC, Berkshire and how many end up getting offers?

Currently a BA (analyst) at McKinsey New York, it is indeed possible to recruit your first year, though most choose to do so in their second (either on-cycle or off-cycle for immediate start). Would recommend choosing an early start date if you are dead-set on recruiting in the first-year, though this may hut your network (majority of people start in ~Sep)

Honestly, most people at McKinsey aren't interested in PE (I would estimate maybe 10-20% of BA's are), but don't know much on the # that get offers.

I see, that’s very helpful - thank you so much for your response! The off cycle recruiting for an immediate start (in your second year) sounds interesting - what are those opportunities like? Will you have the same set options as on-cycle, and when do they happen? I don’t mind recruiting later, I mostly just would like to move to PE after 2 years (rather than 3).

Thank you once again!

Many funds haven't filled their whole classes from on-cycle recruiting, and thus plug in the gaps via off-cycle. Obviously, the off-cycle process is more random, and can be more spaced out.
